Believe it or not, there are just about two weeks left in 2015, meaning it’s not too early to start thinking about New Year’s resolutions. As 2014 winds down, and you begin to reflect on your past year’s resolutions, it’s a good idea to start thinking about your goals and objectives for the coming year. For healthcare students, there are several possibilities in terms of resolutions. If you’re having trouble looking for areas of your life in which you can improve, the following tips serve as inspiration.
School-Life Balance
For motivated healthcare students, maintaining a respectable GPA is usually among their top priorities. While ensuring that you are receiving good grades is always important, healthcare students should be mindful of their school-life balance. That is, many students make the mistake of not scheduling any time to rest, reflect, or simply socialize with friends and families. It is very possible to maintain a perfect GPA, while still finding time for other activities. Students who don’t maintain their school-life balance run the risk of becoming stressed out or hitting the proverbial wall. If you have trouble managing your time, consider setting a day aside to planning the week ahead. Write down all of the week’s deadlines and also schedule in non school-related activities (i.e. working out, dinner with a friend, etc.)
Internships
If you’re currently a BCI student who has not taken part in an internship yet, the holidays are a good time to touch up your resume, create a LinkedIn profile, and research internship opportunities for 2016. Even if this is your first semester, it’s not too early to start thinking about internships for the spring and summer. Talk to your instructors and advisors for advice, and also be sure to attend any networking events in your area.
Read More (Not Just Textbooks)
Although healthcare students may feel as though they do plenty of reading outside of the classroom, reading books from experts in your desired industry can help you give you an additional perspective. If you don’t feel like doing more reading about healthcare-related topics, read a New York Times Bestseller or a new novel from your favorite author. Reading is great for keeping your mind active, especially in today’s technology-crazed world. On the topic, if you can’t put your smartphone or tablet down, at least follow some industry experts on social media to stay up to date on what’s happening in your desired industry.
Most important of all, give yourself a pat on the back for all that you’ve achieved in 2015, and promise to continue your progress into 2016!
